Tigers maul Meridian 42-8 in football season opener

by SkagitRadioSports.com on Friday, August 31, 2012

BELLINGHAM, WA – The Burlington-Edison Tigers exhibited two traditional keys to winning football, the ability to run the ball and to stop the other team from doing so, in a 42-8 victory over the Trojans at Meridian High School.

It was an impressive debut for the Tigers and first year head coach Herb Lehman, whose team played well in nearly every phase of the game, running for four scores and throwing for two while first year defensive coordinator Pat Murphy’s defense held Meridian to minus-six yards rushing and intercepted four Trojans’ passes.

The Tigers’ talented tailback duo of Jay Evans ( 7 carries, 88 yards, 3 Td) and Tyler Morrison (7-36-1) was complimented by timely big plays through the air, as quarterback Dalton Schwetz hit Brandon Stransky with a perfect pass on a 33-yard touchdown, combined with Stransky on another 20 yard gain, and connected with Daron Browning for a 10-yard touchdown pass to give Burlington-Edison a 35-0 halftime lead.
